The second TEDx TASIS England Youth took the theme "Fifty Years and Forward" for the school's anniversary year, and once again it was run by students: they secured the TEDx licence, formed the committees, coached the speakers and coordinated every detail, supported by Dr. Barker and Ms. Clench.
Three Grade 11 Project Leaders steered it - Amina on the Speakers Committee, Conor on logistics and Maelle on marketing. "Leadership is mainly about delegating," says Maelle. "It's about having trust in who you're working with," adds Conor.
Year two was smoother. "This year, we knew who in the Fleming Theatre to talk to, who to go to for posters," Amina says. The audio problems of the first year were fixed, and one observer called the night "absolutely impeccable".
Speakers came from the Lower, Middle and Upper School, and from faculty, staff and parents - including Mr. Afonso, the school's Catering General Manager, on food trends and how our roots shape our connection to food.
The most rewarding moment? The "barn", the backstage holding area where nervous speakers came back relieved. Next year's team plans to approach speakers in September. Watch this space.
